Computer with Windows 10

ONE WINDOW CLOSES, ANOTHER WINDOW OPENS

After 14 October 2025, Microsoft will be removing support, free security fixes, and software updates for Windows 10. With the clock set and your “Window” closing, now is the time to consider upgrading older PCs and switching to Windows 11.

IS YOUR BUSINESS PREPARED FOR WINDOWS 11?

It’s official! Microsoft has decided to shut the doors (or windows) on Windows 10 in 2025. If your devices are still running Windows 10, it’s time to start thinking about the future. While Windows 10 may feel like a close computer companion, every piece of tech has an expiration date for its available support. With Windows 11’s shiny new features and beefed-up security, upgrading is more important than ever!

WHY UPGRADE?

You’ve probably heard that Windows 11 has some hefty hardware requirements, but let’s explore why Microsoft has set the bar higher. The move from Windows 10 to 11 isn’t just a new look and feel – it’s designed to be a more secure and high-performing operating system (OS), made for the modern workforce. With the rise in cyber threats, an aging OS can put your business’ data at risk. Windows 11 was built with modern cybersecurity in mind – from hardware-based security features to zero-trust principles that make unauthorised access harder. And with Windows 10 on its way out, its security support will soon disappear, which could open up vulnerabilities for a business still trying to hold on to their trusted computer companions.

AM I WINDOWS 11 READY?

Let’s get real. Full transparency, no window tinting – not all Windows computers will make the jump to Windows 11 smoothly. If your business is using an older fleet of PCs, you might be dealing with one of the many systems that just won’t handle the upgrade, with proficiency.

Generally speaking, your computer will need the following specifications to meet the minimum system requirements of Windows 11.

Processor 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC).
RAM 4 gigabytes (GB)
Storage 64 GB or larger storage device.
System Firmware UEFI, Secure Boot capable
TPM Version 2.0
Graphics Card Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver.
Display High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per colour channel.

While Windows 11 will operate on a system that meets the above minimum specifications, it’s important to note that Windows 11 uses more RAM (random access memory) than previous versions, and systems running on less than 16GB RAM will likely experience decreased performance after updating. Additionally, there are specific features that require additional hardware. System requirements to run some applications will exceed the minimum device specifications.

WHAT IF MY DEVICES AREN’T COMPATIBLE?

If some or all of your fleet of computers will not be compatible with Windows 11 or you’re expecting to see a significant decrease in performance, then it’s time to consider investing in a fleet upgrade, ensuring your devices are equipped to handle the next era of Windows.

Think of it as a proactive step to future-proof your operations. New devices don’t just guarantee Windows 11 compatibility; they also give your team the tools for smoother performance, greater collaboration and improved efficiency.

RISKS OF STAYING WITH WINDOWS 10

Staying with Windows 10 after support ends in 2025 is like running software on autopilot with no one in the control room. You’re opening yourself to operational risks, from cyber threats to software glitches that won’t have fixes. Let’s break down the risks of staying with Windows 10.

SECURITY VULNERABILITIES

Unsupported operating systems become prime targets for cybercriminals. Without security patches, outdated systems can be exploited with new and emerging methods of attack.

COMPATIBILITY ISSUES

Newer apps and software updates may not play well with Windows 10, meaning missed features and reduced productivity.

INCREASED DOWNTIME

Systems with unpatched vulnerabilities may experience frequent glitches, crashes, or total failures, which can put operations on hold.

INCREASED MAINTENANCE COSTS

IT teams spend more time patching, fixing, and creating workarounds for older systems – taking time and money away from more strategic projects.
